Automatic Transmission

 

• When a driver is driving a vehicle with a manual transmission,the shift leve is 

  usedtoup-shift when the accelerator pedal is depressed in order to increase the vehicle’s 

  speed

 

• When driving down a hill, or when the engine does not have sufficient power to climb a hill 

  in the current gear, the transmission is down-shifted

 

• For these reasons, it is necessary for the driver to be constantly aware of the engine 

  load and vehicle speed and to be shifting gears accordingly

 

• With an automatic transmission, this type of driver judgment is unnecessary, shifting by the   driver is unnecessary, and shifting up or down to the most  appropriate gear is 

  accomplished  automatically at the  most appropriate time for the engine load and vehicle

  speed
