Over Drive

INTRODUCTION:

• Over drive is suitable for high powered cars

• This increases the engine life and fuel consumption is decreased

• Generally over drive is fitted to the top gear only

Construction of Over Drive:

   It consists of

  • set of planetary gears 

  • solenoid pawl arrangement for locking the sun   gear 
  • rail and fork assembly linked to a dash control knob for disconnecting the over 
    drive when not in use 

  • A free wheel unit or over running clutch which drives below cut in speed  

Over Drive Operation:

• It is operated at cut in speed, usually 35 to 55 km/ph 

• By releasing the accelerator pedal momentarily the over drive is get connected  

• By pushing the accelerator pedal for full throttle  we can come out from the over drive 

• By pushing the knob on the dash board we can lock out the over drive
