Introduction to Automobile transmission system

                                   Introduction to  Automobile transmission system

    What is Automobile transmission system?

A system is necessary to transmit the power developed by the engine to the wheels. This system is called as Automobile transmission system.

     PURPOSE OF AUTOMOBILE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM:
To transmit the power from the engine to wheels.

      ARRANGEMENT OF TRANSMISSION SYSTEM:

        VARIOUS COMPONENTS:

Clutch

Gear box

Propeller shaft

Universal joints

Differential

Rear axle & wheels
 CLUTCH:

To engage and disengage the transmission of power from engine to gear box.
  GEAR BOX:

 To provide

 •Various torque  / speed ratios

 •A neutral position

 •for reversing the direction

      UNIVERSAL JOINT

To transmit torque at an angle

     PROPELLER SHAFT:

A driving shaft that connects gear box to the differential.

     DIFFERENTIAL:

To provide a relative movement to the two rear wheels while taking turn.

REAR AXLE:

To transmit power from differential to the driving wheel

WHEELS
     To move the vehicle
To support the weight of the vehicle
