3.Full Floating Axle

• The wheel hub is mounted on the axle casing

• The inner end of the axle shaft is splined and is supported by the final drive unit


• The outer end of the axle shaft have flanges, which are connected to the flanged sleeve
  by means of bolts

• Two taper roller bearing are used to support the axle casing in the wheel hub

• The axle shaft carry only driving and braking torques

• The weight of the vehicle, torque reaction and end thrust are carried by the axle casing

• This type of arrangement is costly

• Widely used in heavy vehicles.


• The axle shafts can be taken out or replaced without lifting the wheel / removing the nuts
