Need of Differential Lock in Vehicles

If one of the drive wheels has good traction, and the other one is on ice  or mud
The less traction  wheel cannot deliver torque, All the torque goes to the slipping wheel
In these conditions vehicle will not move forward, this problem can overcome by providing
  the differential lock
 Differential Lock:
Mechanisms to allow normal differential action when going around turns
 • When a wheel slips, they allow more torque to be transferred to the non-slipping wheel
