Classification of Axles

Live Axle : The live axle receives power from the gear box and  transmits it  to the road 

                   wheels

Dead Axle: A Dead axle will not have any connection with the engine and no power is 

                   transmitted through this axle

Front axle: If the axle is located at the front of the vehicle it is called front axle

Rear axle: If the axle is located at the rear it is called Rear axle
