Types of Double Reduction Final Drive


A typical double reduction axle 
 
The first reduction is obtained between the bevel pinion and crown wheel

A lay shaft carries both bevel crown and spur pinion the lay shaft is carried on bearings in 
  the casing
 
Spur pinion meshes with spur wheel to which differential case is fitted by means of bolts

The second reduction is obtained between Spur pinion and spur wheel

 
Double Reduction Final Drive:

The second type of Double reduction final drive:
   
In this type first reduction is obtained between the bevel pinion and crown wheel
 
Differential case is fitted to the crown wheel
 
  The lay shaft connected to the sun wheel carries spur pinions 
 
  The spur pinion meshes with the spur wheel fixed to the axle shaft 
 
  The second reduction obtained between the spur pinion and the wheel after the differential
