Stub Axle

 A stub axle a sub assembly of a front axle beam upon which the Road wheel is 

 mounted

   
The front wheels are mounted on the stub axles, which are connected to the front axle by 

means of king pins
 
The stub axle turns about the King pin which is a light drive fit in the axle beam eye, located 
 and locked by the taper cotter pin
 
Phosphor bronze bushes are fitted into the forked ends of 
the  axle to provide a bearing surface for the king pin
 
A steel thrust washer is provided to take the vertical load in the joint
