Function of Slip joint in the propeller shaft

Slip Joint - Purpose:

   
Slip joint serves to adjust the length of the propeller shaft when demanded by the rear axle 
  movements
Depending upon the type of drive, one slip joint may be there in shaft
 
Slip Joint:
Slip joint is usually provided in propeller shaft close to the Universal joint that is situated 
   near the Gear box 
 • The Propeller shaft with a slip joint is called telescopic propeller shaft
  A slip joint consists of external splines on the end of one shaft and matching internal 
   splines on the matching shaft
