Types of final drives

2. Worm and Wormwheel:

• In this type of drive, a worm and wheel are employed

• The worm is fitted to the propeller shaft by a flange and the wheel to the differential casing

   

 Gear ratio of drive = Number of teeth on the wheel/Number of starts on the worm shaft
